My first game jam submission - Mini Jam 103.

Controls:

  • Movement - WASD (+ Spacebar) or arrow keys
  • Interact - E

Explanation:

I implemented the theme of "darkness" in a very literal manner; You're a deep-sea diver, and believe it or not, it's pretty dark down there. In this game, you collect gold in caves underwater which allow you to buy upgrades at the store. These upgrades make it easier for you to access more caves.

Stars can also be found in the caves; When you have collected 6 stars, the game will end (this is temporary until the game is further developed).

I incorporated the limitation of "You are your own enemy" through the use of a sanity meter; As you go deeper into the water, your sanity drops too. The lower it gets, the higher the chance of hallucinations appearing which cause your player to run away against your will. This may push you deeper underwater, wasting your precious oxygen and leading to your demise.

Psst, it's open-source:

This is a very interesting game! This is the first time I play a game where diving is actually very entertaining as all the games I played when I was young were either very very hard due to the inability to upgrade.

Keep up the good work but the character asset is great, may be trying make the game have similar style?

I'm working on the art and graphics as we speak, but the player was only placeholder and will not remain in the game. I'm also improving the upgrade system so I'm glad you liked it!

Thanks for playing!

Fun game, I love the dynamic lights and balancing between oxygen and sanity while pushing deeper and deeper. I hope you keep the feature where touching the walls is what loses sanity, giving me a reason to bunny hop around through the caves XD

I still haven’t gotten the 6th star, but I’d love to be able to sell the ones I have for more money, the upgrade system is super cool, I want to be able to max out!

Thanks for sharing this game, I had a lot of fun!

Thanks so much for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I already have a plan for the stars in mind; I only threw together the "get 6 to win" thing at the end of the jam since I was running out of time. It'll change in the coming weeks as I develop this project.
